5/17/2023 0 Comments Apple wwdc announcementsAnd with up to 24GB of fast unified memory, M2 has been designed to handle even larger and more complex workloads. The additional transistors improve features across the entire chip, including the memory controller that delivers 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, 50% more than M1. The system-on-a-chip (SoC) design of M2 is built using enhanced, second-generation 5-nanometer technology, and consists of 20 billion transistors, which is 25% more than M1. And along with higher memory bandwidth and new capabilities like ProRes acceleration, M2 continues the tremendous pace of innovation in Apple silicon for the Mac.” With our relentless focus on power-efficient performance, M2 delivers a faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. “M2 starts the second generation of M-series chips and goes beyond the remarkable features of M1. Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies told us… M2 brings all of this, plus new custom technologies and greater efficiency, to the completely redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro. It also delivers 50% more memory bandwidth compared to M1, and up to 24GB of fast unified memory. The M2 SoC has 24GB of unified LPDDR5 memory, up 8GB from the M1.īuilt using second-generation 5-nanometer technology, Apple’s M2 takes their performance per watt of M1 even further with an 18% faster CPU, a 35% more powerful GPU, and a 40% faster Neural Engine. There are expected to be "notable changes to the user interface", though for now, there are no details on what these changes might entail. The M2 System on a Chip (SoC) has the same number of cores as the original M1 chip (8) with 4 high-performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores as does the M1 but runs faster and comes with more graphics cores, with 9 or 10 GPU cores, up from the 7 or 8 that came with the M. The next major software build coming to Apple Watch is expected to be watchOS 10 and while we didn't see huge changes with watchOS 9 - aside from sleep stages within sleep tracking and some other small changes - it's thought watchOS 10 will be a more "extensive upgrade". Third party app stores have also been rumoured for iOS 17 so it's expected that iPadOS 17 will adopt this too. It's likely that a redesigned Control Centre will also carry over to iPadOS 17 if iOS 17 introduces it, and there is talk of the Lock Screen from iOS 16 coming too. There haven't been as many rumours surrounding iPadOS 17 as there have been for iOS 17, though we still expect all the new software features coming to iPad for later in 2023 to be announced during WWDC. We're keeping track of all the iOS 17 rumours in our separate feature. Some changes to the Control Centre have also been rumoured. The software update is expected to be iOS 17 and rumours so far suggest it won't be a major overhaul, but there could be some "nice to have features" introduced. We expect to see announcements surrounding the next iPhone software update during WWDC 23 and what features that will bring. We've been covering the rumours about the Apple mixed reality headset for the last eight years in our Apple Reality Pro feature so if you want a full rundown of what might appear, that's where you'll want to head. It's also said to run on a new software OS called xrOS and cost around $3000. It's been claimed the headset could feature dual 4K displays and cameras that allow for advanced tracking and controller-free input. Apple Reality ProĪpple is heavily rumoured to be working on a mixed reality headset, which has been called Reality Pro in rumours. Nothing is of course confirmed as yet, but there have been a number of rumours surrounding what we might be able to expect at WWDC 23.
